South Australian beers

It's been a while since I have looked at this side of things for the website. I have been focussing on my book, tenatively called 'The South Australian beer track'. The book is focussed on giving some background to the breweries owned by South Australians and the beer they make with a detailed review of each beer. I will post a few of the highlights of those reviews soon and a few possible recipes.
 

Coopers Vintage - potential recipe

August 27, 2009
81% Pale Malt
10% Sugar - I'd go with brown as it might add soemthing to the flavour.
5% Wheat
4% Dark Crystal

Magnum to 18 IBU at 60 mins
Perle to 9 IBU at 45 Mins
Fuggles at 10 Mins about 0.5g/l
Styrian at 10 Mins about 0.75g/l


Last year's used Hersbrucker, POR and Cascade. I think that was a better beer, but it could have been the length of time it had to mature. The current version has been released earlier so perhaps isn't as well rounded as a result.

Coopers Vintage Ale 2009

A pint of Coopers Vintage on tap, could there be anything better? Well today, sadly, there might be. Coopers Vintage is one of those beers that receives countless acolades for its rich flavours and ability to improve with age. Each vintage has been different and in many ways they have improved over the years. However, there is little doubt the first vintage was the best.

Beer reviews

One of the things I'd love to do it put together a compilation of review of new commercial beers I try. My focus initally would be on the wonderful South Australian craft breweries we have. For the avid homebrewers out there I'll also look to try and post a recipe that I've devised that would be suitable to match the beer. No guarantees it will be the same or that I've actually brewed it, but it would be a start.
